Arkle Pacific Star lambs and Haddo Lucky Strike ewes May 2010The 85 ewe flock has been awarded the All Wales Championship in 2010 and was runner-up in 2009.  We took the overall previously in 2007.  Only one show outing this year to Brecon County where we took Champion texel, reserve overall lowland champion and champion group.  For a full report see Brecon Show 2010

In 2009 we were placed in every show class entered at the sales including:
• South Wales Club Sale: Champion Female, 2nd Shearling Ram, 2nd Ram Lamb
• Welsh National: Res. Female Champion, 6th Ram Lamb
• NSA: 5th Shearling Ewe, 7th Shearling Ram

Having topped at 4600 gns and averaging £824 on 35 rams at the NSA we were also really pleased to average £645 with a top of 900 gns on our ram lambs at the Welsh National and South Wales Club sale. The flock is extremely consistent throughout and almost all of our ewes go back to the same two rams. Salmonsbridge Yankee (1995), a Highfields U2 son, who bred tight skins and excellent conformation. Ettrick Executive (1998), a North Quarter Deluxe son out of a Tinwald Yorkie ewe, breeding character and length.

Lambs at weaning 2008Haddo Lucky Strike has made an immense contribution to the flock. His first crop in 2006 stood apart from the other lambs to such an extent that he sired our entire 2007 crop. We have retained many of his daughters and find them to be easy lambing and bursting with milk.

A recent addition has been Arkle Pacific Star.  A well muscled lamb with great character and colour.  He won his class at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2009.  His first crop of lambs have been tremendous taking 1st prize ram lamb, 1st prize ewe lamb, champion texel group and champion texel at Brecon County show on their first outing.  We have 3 lambs entered for the Welsh National Sale by Arkle and 2 more going to the South Wales Club Sale.  At a recent flock visit with the South Wales Club the 50 or so members were extremely impressed with the group of ewe lambs.
